Hire the Kubota U17-3 1.7 tonne mini excavator on the Central Coast. It’s the one to hire when the U10-5 is too small for the job: it digs 2.3 metres deep, reaches 3.9 metres and moves a lot more dirt in a day. It’s $210 a day inc GST. Collect it from our Koolewong yard on its own trailer, or we’ll drop it off anywhere on the Central Coast for $85.

The tracks pull in to 990mm, so it still gets through most side gates. Measure the narrowest point on the way in. If it’s under a metre, the U10-5 mini excavator is the one you want.

Kubota U17-3 hire: common questions
Do I need a licence to hire a 1.7 tonne excavator in NSW?
There is no specific licence required to operate a mini excavator in NSW. Excavators are not on SafeWork NSW’s high-risk work licence list. What the law does require is that you are trained and competent for the machine you are using. On a construction site you will also need a general construction induction card (white card). We run you through the machine at handover and you get the operator’s manual with it. If you would rather not operate it yourself, ask us about hire with an operator.
How much does it cost to hire the Kubota U17-3?
The U17-3 is $210 (inc GST) per day, $360 (inc GST) for a weekend, and $1160 (inc GST) per week. Delivery and collection are charged separately.
Should I hire the U17-3 or the smaller U10-5?
The U17-3 is the bigger of our two mini excavators, so it digs deeper and moves more in a day. The U10-5 is the one to pick when access is the constraint rather than the volume of work. If you are not sure, tell us the job and the narrowest access point and we will tell you which one to take.
What does the weekend rate cover?
You collect it from 5pm Friday and bring it back by 5pm Sunday, for $360 (inc GST).
Do you deliver to my address?
Yes. Delivery is $85 (inc GST) and collection is $85 (inc GST), anywhere on the Central Coast. If you are outside the Central Coast, send us the address and we will quote it.
Can I hire it with an operator?
Yes. The Groundbreakers team runs the machine for you. Operated work is quoted per job after we’ve seen the site, because it depends on the work, the access and how long it takes. Send us a few photos and the suburb and we’ll come back with a quote.
Will the U17-3 fit through my side gate?
The tracks pull in to 990mm and the machine is 1,240mm wide with them out. Measure the narrowest point on the way in, including gates, bins and downpipes. Under a metre, go with the U10-5, which narrows to 750mm. Not sure? Send us a photo and we will tell you.
Can I tow it myself?
The excavator and trailer together weigh about 2,000kg, so check your vehicle is rated to tow that. If it isn’t, we’ll deliver for $85 (inc GST).
