How Much Does Mobile Scaffold Tower Hire Cost on the Central Coast?
Short answer: mobile scaffold tower hire on the Central Coast starts at $115.50 a week for a compact FoldScaf, $170.50 a week for a single width tower and $176.00 a week for a double width tower, all inc GST. What moves the price from there is how long you need it, whether you erect it yourself or we deliver and install it, the platform height you need, and whether the job involves a stairwell.
This page explains where those numbers come from so you can compare quotes properly instead of guessing. We’re Groundbreakers Plant Hire, a family-owned yard in Koolewong, and we hire mobile aluminium scaffold towers only, not fixed or conventional scaffolding.
If you would rather skip the detail and see what we offer, our scaffold hire Central Coast page covers the full range: mobile towers, stairwell setups, dry hire, and delivery and install.
Mobile scaffold tower hire rates
| Tower | Best for | From (inc GST) |
|---|---|---|
| FoldScaf | Painting, interior work, weekend jobs. Folds down to fit in a van | $115.50 / week |
| Single width tower (700mm x 2500mm) | Tight access: hallways, side passages, stairwells, entry voids | $170.50 / week |
| Double width tower (1300mm x 2500mm) | Two people and materials on the platform at once | $176.00 / week |
These are the current published rates from our mobile scaffold tower hire page, and all rates include GST: the price you see is the price you pay. Rates are “from” prices because tower configuration changes with the height and layout you need. A 2m platform and a 9.6m platform are not the same amount of gear.
What actually changes the price
1. How long you need it
Towers are priced weekly. A day rate is available, but there is no half-day rate. If you need it for three hours you pay for the day. For most renovation and painting jobs a week works out better value than stacking day rates, and it takes the pressure off finishing in a hurry.
2. Platform height
Height is the single biggest driver. More height means more frames, more braces and more bracing hardware, so the hire rate climbs with it. Our double width towers reach a platform height of 9.6m (a working height around 11.6m); single width towers reach 8.1m platform height.
3. Dry hire or delivered and installed
This is the choice that changes the total most, and it’s where quotes are hardest to compare.
Dry hire is the tower only. You collect it from our Koolewong yard, erect it, and bring it back. It’s the cheapest option and the fastest to book, because there’s no install crew to schedule.
Delivered and installed means we bring it to site, erect it to the height and configuration you need, relocate it as the job moves, then dismantle and collect it. You pay for the labour, and you don’t spend a Saturday reading an assembly guide or working out whether you’ve braced it correctly.
Most stairwell jobs need the installed option, because stairwell access has to be built to fit the space rather than assembled from a standard kit.
4. Delivery and collection
Towers pack down small, but a full tower still needs a decent trailer or a van. If you haven’t got either, delivery and collection is worth pricing in rather than discovering on the day. Ask when you call and we’ll confirm the cost for your address.
5. Whether the job includes a stairwell
Stairwells cost more than a straight tower against a flat wall, and they should. The treads change level every few hundred millimetres, the void has to stay clear or be properly boarded, and standard tower configurations don’t sit flush against an angled stringer. We build the tower to the actual stairwell, stepping the platforms to follow the stair line. It’s our specialty and something most Central Coast yards won’t quote at all. See our scaffold tower hire Central Coast page for detail.
Do you need a scaffold ticket? (and what it costs if you do)
This catches people out, and it can cost more than the tower.
Our SUPASCAF aluminium towers are manufactured to a WorkCover NSW registered design and can be erected and used without a scaffolding ticket where the platform height does not exceed 4m from ground level. That gives a working height of roughly 6m, enough for most single-storey exteriors, gutters, interior ceilings and stairwell landings.
Above a 4m platform height, the tower must be erected by someone appropriately qualified. If you’re planning a two-storey job and budgeting only for the tower, that’s the line to check before you book: either factor in our install service or keep the platform under 4m.
What isn’t included
- Damage. You’re responsible for the cost of repairing damage while the equipment is in your care. We’re a small business and don’t offer a damage waiver. Full detail is in our Terms & Conditions.
- Half days. Day rate is the smallest unit.
- Labour. Dry hire is the gear, not the setup. Install is quoted separately.
How to compare scaffold tower quotes properly
Three questions make quotes comparable:
- Is that the tower only, or erected? A dry hire rate against an installed rate isn’t a like-for-like comparison, and the gap is labour.
- What platform height does that price cover? A cheap rate for a 2m tower tells you nothing about a 6m one.
- Is delivery and collection in or out? Two rates can look identical until one of them needs you to own a trailer.
Worth knowing too: a lot of national hire chains quote mobile towers as a generic line item and won’t touch a stairwell. If your job has stairs in it, ask that question early. It’s often the difference between a workable quote and a wasted week.
Where we hire towers
Our core area is the Central Coast: Gosford, Woy Woy, Terrigal, Wyong, Tuggerah, Berkeley Vale and the suburbs around them, working from our yard at 60 Glenrock Parade, Koolewong. Mobile scaffold towers are the one product we take further afield: see our Northern Sydney tower hire page for the councils we cover south of the Coast.
Frequently asked questions
How much does mobile scaffold tower hire cost on the Central Coast?
From $115.50 a week for a FoldScaf, $170.50 a week for a single width tower and $176.00 a week for a double width tower, all inc GST. Height, hire length, delivery and whether you want it erected for you all move the final figure.
Is it cheaper to hire a scaffold tower or a scissor lift?
For most residential work a tower is cheaper and more practical. Lifts cost more per week, need level ground and clear access, and can’t be carried through a house. A tower can be walked through a doorway and set up in a stairwell.
Do I need a scaffold ticket to use a mobile tower?
Not where the platform height stays at or below 4m from ground level. Above that, the tower needs to be erected by someone appropriately qualified. We can do that as part of an install.
Is there a half-day rate?
No. Day rate is the smallest unit we hire on.
How much does a stairwell scaffold tower setup cost?
It’s quoted per job rather than off a rate card, because every stairwell is a different shape and the tower gets built to fit it. Call 0405 082 750 and describe the stairwell and we’ll give you a real number.
Get a quote for your job
Call Groundbreakers on 0405 082 750 or request a quote. Tell us the height you need to reach, how long for, and whether there’s a stairwell involved. That’s enough for us to give you a firm figure rather than a range.
